Starting Therapy

Starting therapy doesn’t require a diagnosis or a clear problem to solve. I offer two ways to begin — each fully confidential and without any obligation to continue — providing space to reflect on what brings you here and what you might be looking for at this point.

First Steps

You’re welcome to begin with a free 15-minute video or telephone call. This brief conversation offers an opportunity to outline what has brought you to therapy and for us both to get an initial sense of whether working together feels right.

Alternatively, you may choose to begin with a full initial consultation of 50–60 minutes. This provides a more spacious, exploratory meeting in which we can think together about what brings you to therapy, how you are currently managing, and what you might hope to gain from therapy at this stage. It is also an opportunity to ask any questions about therapy and how I work, and to consider whether ongoing counselling or psychotherapy would be helpful.

Session Frequency

If you decide to continue, sessions are 50 minutes long and usually take place once weekly, or twice weekly where requested, at the same day and time each week. This applies to both counselling and psychotherapy.

Fees

Therapy represents both an emotional and a practical commitment. Fees are discussed during the initial consultation and are offered on a sliding scale, taking into account individual circumstances.

I aim to keep a small number of reduced-fee places available for those who may need them, subject to availability. The consultation provides an opportunity to discuss fees openly and to consider together whether ongoing therapy would feel manageable.

Valia Charalampidou, Psychotherapist

If you are considering starting therapy, you are welcome to get in touch by email to arrange an initial conversation.

You may briefly outline what brings you to therapy at this point, although many people prefer simply to arrange a consultation and speak in more detail then.
