Welcome to my Practice

I’m Valia Charalampidou (she/her), a British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) accredited Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, offering a confidential and supportive space for self-exploration and growth.

I practice Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, a psychoanalytically informed, comprehensive, and integrative approach. Rather than simply addressing surface-level symptoms, we will explore the unconscious processes and early experiences that shape your current emotional and relational life. Instead of prescribing advice, I can help you discover your own answers.

I provide in-person, online and telephone sessions.

My office is located just a three-minute walk from Chancery Lane tube station, off a secluded private courtyard, in Quality Court. This is a historic building in the heart of London’s legal district, nestled quietly away from the hustle and bustle of the City. It offers discreet access whether you are a professional working in the area, or a resident of nearby areas. It is also within walking distance of Blackfriars, City Thameslink,  Farringdon and Temple Tube station.

Sessions are offered in English or in Greek.

How do you know if you need short-term counselling or longer-term psychotherapy?

This is something we can think about together during the initial consultation. Some people come with a clear, time-limited issue; others may realise they want to work at greater depth. The duration and frequency of therapy are shaped around your needs.

  • What Is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy?

Psychodynamic psychotherapy offers a space to understand the parts of ourselves that we don’t always see clearly but which nonetheless shape how we feel, think, and relate. Often, we find ourselves caught in patterns—repeating the same kinds of relationships, reacting too strongly to small things, feeling stuck, disconnected, or overwhelmed—without understanding why. This type of therapy helps make sense of these patterns by exploring how earlier experiences have shaped our emotional life, sometimes outside of our awareness. Rather than offering advice or strategies, we work together to bring these unconscious processes into the open. As this begins to happen, the need to act out, shut down, or feel trapped by our reactions can lessen. The process can be challenging at times, but it often brings greater freedom, resilience, and a more authentic connection to oneself and others.

  • What Is Short-Term Counselling?

Short-term counselling is a focused, time-limited form of therapy, typically lasting between 12 and 18 sessions. It is often helpful during periods of crisis or transition—after a loss, a relationship breakdown, or during a time of decision-making or stress. In short-term work, we aim to explore a specific issue or difficulty in depth, using the same reflective and emotionally attuned stance as in longer-term therapy. While the scope is narrower, the approach still values insight and emotional truth, offering clients the chance to think through a particular experience with care and depth. For some, this brief period of focused work is enough; for others, it can open the door to longer-term therapy in the future.

Starting therapy can feel daunting, but it is an important investment in your mental health and overall well-being. Psychotherapy can help you understand your emotions, navigate life’s difficulties, and find greater fulfilment.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. A 15-minutes initial consultation is free, and there’s no obligation to continue. Alternatively, you can book an exploratory 50-minutes session.

Why Psychodynamic Psychotherapy?

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a powerful, long-term approach that helps you uncover the unconscious processes shaping your thoughts, emotions and behaviour. By gaining deeper insight into these patterns, you can:

  • Soften the impact of recurring difficulties.

  • Develop a stronger sense of self-awareness.

  • Cultivate healthier ways of relating to others.

This approach is particularly effective for those seeking meaningful and lasting change. Sessions are 50 minutes long and take place on a weekly or twice-weekly basis, depending on your needs. The consistency and depth of regular sessions allow for the gradual exploration of underlying emotional conflicts, fostering a therapeutic process that can lead to profound and enduring transformation.
